Senior Highways / Civil Engineer

Competitive salary depending on experience

South Wales/ South West of England / Gloucestershire / Worcestershire

(The role would require attendance at the Cardiff Office 1-2 days per week and travel to regional projects in South West of England / Gloucestershire / Worcestershire 2-4 days per week)

Highways / Civil Engineering:

Industry standard Codes of Practice including,
oDMRB standards (essential);

oManual for Streets (essential);

oSewers For Adoption (desirable);

oEurocodes and BS (desirable);

Highway design (varied experience – geometric highway alignment, roundabout design, junction design, pavement composition, public realm);
Highway Planning and Adoption arrangements, Eg. under the Highways Act;
oS38 (highway adoption);

oS278 (works to public highway);

Familiarity / awareness of the following processes;
oRoad Safety Audits and Stages (RSA);

oTechnical Approval (TA);

oApproval In Principal (AIP);

oPlanning Approval process;

oLand acquisition process;

oTraffic / transport modelling;

oUK Transport Business Case;

oUtility diversions.

·Analysis and modelling software abilities including:

oBIM (Civils 3D);



Awareness of drainage / water system design – storm water, foul and potable water


Ability and confidence to be Client facing;
Good communicator and proactive team member - someone who can confidently articulate the basis of their design, whilst being able to take on board and incorporate valid viewpoints of others;
Confidence to contribute in design teams and be a proactive, engaged team player;
Good report writing skills;
Good understanding of the development process;
Good understanding of the construction process and ability to work well with contractors;
Someone who works efficiently with good time management skills;
General I.T. – proficient in the Office suite of software;
Full UK Driving licence;
Willingness to travel.


Degree Qualified;
Masters Qualified (desirable);
Progressing towards or achieved Chartered status with either;
oInstitution of Civil Engineers; or

oChartered Institution of Highways and Transportation; or

oInstitute of Highways Engineers.
