Job Purpose:
Our client is a small privately owned company based in Cardiff that manufactures digital driving controls for disabled drivers worldwide. They are the global market leader in their field.
Individually you will need to be self-motivated with the imagination and proven desire to take full responsibility for your solutions and you must have excellent communication skills.
With continued expansion home and abroad, our client now requires an experienced multi-talented and enthusiastic engineer with a strong background in software and hardware design. Experience working in the automotive industry or a keen interest in vehicles is essential as 100% of their time is spent supporting, developing and manufacturing solutions in this area. Knowledge of LINbus and CANbus technology would be advantageous but is not essential.

Description of duties:
• The design and development of electronic hardware (analogue and digital PCB design)
• The support and refine of existing product code and the development of structured code for new systems. You should be proficient in different programming languages including real time embedded C for ST ARM processors (including using uVision IDE).
• The design and development of in-house test equipment
• The testing of new solutions on vehicles.

The role will include working with the Technical Director investigating new technologies for future products and therefore an appreciation of full design life cycles from conception to production is essential. You should be familiar with EMC testing (Electromagnetic Compatibility) to ensure compliance with applicable standards, and have mechanical familiarity (mechanical constraints of electronics design such as thermal, shock/vibration etc.)

Requirements:
• A good degree (2:1 or First Class) in a relevant subject e.g. Electronic or Software Engineering
• Proven experience in hardware and software design
• Highly proficient in Embedded C
• Experience in analogue/digital design, and use of different design techniques, CAD tools, 3D printing etc.
• Ability to debug complex problems
• Ability to manage the entire development process of electronic devices, from concept through to production.
• Professional documentation skills
Finally, an analytical mind and someone who truly enjoys solving complicated problems using both logical and creative approaches. You should have excellent organisational skills, able to plan different aspects of a project and always keeping the final goal in mind. Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to productively work in a team and also able to complete tasks autonomously, contributing successfully to the pursued projects.

Benefits include:
Salary £40k to £65K depending on experience, 25 days annual holiday plus bank holidays and being part of a great time in luxury brand new offices in Cardiff.
